Professional Background

After graduating from law school, Zach went to work as a staff attorney for the Madison County Department of Child Services. In 2009, Zach came back to Muncie as a Deputy Prosecutor in the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office.  Initially assigned to Circuit Court 2, Zach handled all felony matters in that court, ranging from low-level property offenses up to, and including, murder.  In 2017, Zach was promoted to the position of Chief Administrative Deputy Prosecutor.  He was also named head of the Felony Drug Unit, where he oversaw all felony drug dealing matters filed by the office.  In 2018, Zach was appointed Chief Deputy Prosecutor.  In this current position, Zach primarily focuses on all homicide-related cases that are filed in Delaware County.

During his time as Chief Deputy Prosecutor, Zach has developed a passion for seeking justice for members of our community that have fallen victim to overdose-related deaths.  It is this passion that has led Zach to personally charging and prosecuting ALL of the Drug Dealing Resulting in Death cases that have been filed in Delaware County, an area in which the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office leads the State.  Zach has used his expertise in this area to promote the aggressive prosecution of drug dealers who prey on vulnerable members of our community. Along with the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council (IPAC) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Zach has conducted multiple state-wide trainings in this area for law enforcement agencies and local prosecutor offices.

Achievements

Since joining the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office, Zach has developed a reputation as one of the top trial attorneys in Indiana.  Over the last decade he has tried more felony criminal cases in Delaware County than any other attorney.  During this time, Zach has received high praise for his tireless efforts.  In 2019, Zach received a Certificate of Appreciation from the DEA in connection with his role in the investigation and prosecution of a local pain doctor whose prescribing of dangerous pain medication had led to the overdose deaths of several patients.  In 2024, Zach was the recipient of the International Homicide Investigators Association’s award for Prosecution Excellence.

In addition to his work in the courtroom, Zach also devotes a great deal of time to serving on several community service boards.  He is a member of the Delaware County Overdose Fatality Review Team, the Delaware County Child Protection Team, the Child Advocacy Center Multidisciplinary Team, to name a few.  He also serves on the advisory board of the Delaware County Prevention Council.  In 2024, Zach was appointed by the Muncie City Council to the Muncie Ethics Advisory Committee.
